September Emerging Media Events in New Mexico

Throughout September, New Mexico will be bustling with emerging media art events and experiences. Read on to see some of our highlights, and follow Emerging Media Alliance on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date with exciting upcoming events and news.

Santa Fe’s Canyon Road may be known as a traditional arts hub, but the Thoma Foundation’s Art House is challenging this view. The current exhibition In Real Time focuses on newly-acquired digital media artworks using real-time software, creating an alluring, temporal, constantly-evolving experience. Don’t wait too long to visit as this exhibition is quickly coming to a close.
On view until September 15. Thoma Foundation’s Art House, 231 Delgado Street in Santa Fe, NM. Hours: Thursday – Saturday, 10:00am – 5:00pm. Free.

The PASEO Taos outdoor art project and festival kicks off on September 14, running through the following day. This festival’s mission is to explore and expand the interplay between art and community, create a platform for experimental and interactive art, encourage discussion surrounding contemporary art practices, and engage the community through educational practices and radical experiences. This year’s theme is SPACE—encompassing the entire universe while reflecting on the inescapable interactions between technology and human experience.
September 14 & 15, 7:00 – 11:00pm both evenings. Historic Downtown Taos. Free.

Associated PASEO events include NeoRio 2018, an outdoor community arts event which offers thought-provoking art installations, a farm-to-table feast, poetry readings, and musical performances.
September 15, 4:00 – 9:00 pm. Montoso Campground, Wild Rivers Area, 40 mi north of Taos in Questa, NM. Free.

To celebrate the end of PASEO, an After Party will take place from dusk until dawn with music, beer, and on-site camping. The three-stage musical event invites attendees to party with Beats Antique and Govinda Music.
September 15, 11:00pm – September 16, 8:00am.Taos Mesa Brewing, 20 ABC Mesa Road in El Prado, NM. $18-$25.

This exciting weekend will end with Pecha Kucha, the Fall Arts Edition. This event incorporates both new media artists participating in PASEO and more traditional artists including painters, sculptors, and photographers. Each artist will present 20 images of their work for 20 seconds each, inspiring the audience with quick-paced, informational, and inspiring presentations.
September 16, 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in Taos, NM. $10.

Later in the month, CODAworx presents CODAsummit: The Intersection of Art, Technology, and Place. This 1.5-day long conference will feature keynote speakers presenting on interactive exhibitions and sensory experiences, panels of expert artists and technologists, presentations by leading artists and their technology collaborators, and discussions led by art patrons about how technology can be essential to art commissions.
September 20, 12:00 – 10:30pm and September 21, 9:00am – 4:15pm. Center for Contemporary Arts, 1050 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe, NM. $600-$750.
